Celebrating Freedom: Juneteenth Crafts for Kids

Join us for a fun and educational crafting session designed for children to celebrate and understand Juneteenth! Through hands-on activities, kids will learn about the history and significance of Juneteenth, the holiday that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.  Perfect for kids of all ages, this crafting session aims to inspire awareness and appreciation for freedom and equality.

For Adults:

Juneteenth, Historical Memory and Maryland Emancipation: What does it mean and where do we go from here?  

Join us as we explore deeply and critically into the historical significance of Juneteenth and Emancipation, and examine their future implications. Historian and educator Marcus "Sankofa" Nicks will guide us through this thought-provoking presentation and community dialogue. Don't miss this opportunity to engage in meaningful discussions and gain deeper insights into these pivotal moments in history!  

About historian and educator Marcus "Sankofa" Nicks:

Marcus "Sankofa" Nicks is a historian, educational leader and healer-activist. He serves as the founder of History Heals Consulting L.L.C, a business devoted to using African American history as a vehicle to aid schools, institutions and businesses in fostering a healthy inclusive environment holistically. He holds a Master of Arts degree in African American Studies from Morgan State University and his research primarily focuses on the history of African Americans of Howard County, the state of Maryland and throughout the United States. He is a former educator in Maryland’s Howard County Public School System of over 12 years and also currently serves as a museum consultant. His mission is to uplift, inspire and empower his community through the historic lens of African American History.
