Each month HCLS co-hosts an online roundtable focusing on a local business owned by a Person of Color in Howard County.  The owner shares the experiences and challenges they face as a local business owner. The discussion is moderated by Nat Alston, Chair and Founder of the Ujamaa Business Roundtable. Includes time for Q&A. The business roundtable normally meets on the 4th Tuesday of the month.

In partnership with Ujamaa Business Roundtable, a roundtable of African-American business owners from the counties of Howard, Montgomery, Prince George's, Baltimore and Baltimore City.

The featured guest of the February Business Roundtable is Darren Cox, Founder, Search Simplified and Upskilled Academy.

Darren Cox is a purposeful, career and business-coaching trendsetter on a mission to help people build their dream job and business with the best-vetted resources, companies and tools.

His extensive background in workforce development, career services and recent success in affiliate marketing have led the way to in-demand services, resources and classes and has given Darren a reputation as a business expert who is engaging and makes complex career and business topics trendy and easy-to-understand.

As an established career and business leader, speaker and the founder of two of the fastest growing companies Search Simplified (searchsimplified.com) and Upskilled Academy (upskilledacademy.com), he has a strong passion for supporting working professionals and entrepreneurs to bring their dreams to reality.

His expertise comes from a lengthy history of studying, practicing and coaching career and business development. He began his career working in social services with various non-profit organizations such as Sasha Bruce Youthwork, Urban Alliance, Living Classrooms, and the Latin American Youth Center after earning his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Journalism and Social Work. Eventually, he moved up the ladder working in leadership roles in higher education and currently serving as an advisory board member of a cutting-edge organization the Innovative Academy of Liberal Art and Sciences (IALAS).

Since founding Search Simplified and Upskilled Academy Darren has:

· Created a long-lasting, strategic partnership with ZipRecruiter and has supported numerous organizations with their recruitment needs including, Year Up, So Others Might Eat, Alternative Schools Network,

University of the District of Columbia Workforce Development, and Best Buy.

· Taught more than 2,000 professionals and entrepreneurs how to elevate their career and build wealth through affiliate marketing.

· Featured speaker at various organizations such as National Association of Workforce Development Professionals (NAWDP) and Jesus House Washington/Baltimore.

Darren’s modernized and engaging career and business advice has been highlighted in The Sentinel and the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).
