Us or Them?
Upstander or Bystander?

This poster exhibit encourages dialogue, engagement, respect and participation in our communities. Let's build a stronger, kinder Howard County --together!

Developed by Facing History and Ourselves and the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibit Service. Local context added by Howard County Library System.

This touring exhibit returns to the Howard County Library System for a limited time. See it now through October 15th at the Elkridge Branch and reflect on how seemingly small actions can make a difference in the lives of others. Viewers can also include their own pledge on the canvas of the step they will take towards becoming an "Upstander" .

**Our partners at the Howard County Office of Human Rights and Equity (OHRE) offer quarterly virtual Bystander Intervention Training. The next class is presented by Liv Alanis Myers, MA, on September 25, 2025 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Registration information may be found here: https://bit.ly/3HJbbMC

Bystander intervention is one way to be an "Upstander". View the exhibit, take the class and make an impact!
