The Walters Art Series: Fantastical Creatures (Online)

Another amazing Art Lecture!

From books, to films, to art, our culture is full of fantastical creatures. Participants will consider how contemporary fantastical creatures connect with objects from the Walters’ ancient collections from China, the Americas, the Mediterranean and Egypt. 

The Fantastical Creatures class will be led by docents Jan Thorman and Judy Weitzman. 

Jan Thorman has been a volunteer docent at the Walters Art Museum for 14 years.  An art history major from Yale University, Jan’s interest in Japanese art was piqued by her docent training and grew through travel in Japan. In addition to her volunteer position at the Walters, she is also Secretary of the National Docent Symposium Council, a North American organization dedicated to continuous improvement in docent practice. 

Judy Weitzman has been a Walters Art Museum Docent for the past six years.  She enjoys touring with school children as well as adults and has been actively creating and presenting virtual tours this past year.  Although her background was in pharmacy, Judy's love of art, art history and lifelong learning is invigorating her retirement.  Judy also takes a variety of classes at the Renaissance Institute at Notre Dame.
