Event Details

For a millennium, Chinese artists achieved great heights in the making of ceramics, inventing new techniques and decorations. Explore the finest examples of Ming and Qing porcelains in the Walters collection, and the historical, cultural, and religious influences on design and manufacturing.


This event is presented in partnership with The Walters Art Museum.

The docents presenting this class are Leslie Bethell and Judy Weitzman.  

Leslie Bethell has an AB from Mount Holyoke College in French Literature and Medieval Studies (1991) and an MA from St. John’s College in Annapolis (1997). She is a RPCV (Mongolia 2003-2005), She has worked on health projects in Sierra Leone (2005), and in Malawi as the Education Coordinator in a refugee camp (2006-2008). Stateside, She has taught middle and high school French and Social Studies at Loyola Blakefield (1997-2001), managed programs at the Baltimore Council on Foreign Affairs (2009-2012), and managed the after school education program at the Village Learning Place (2012-2013). She is married and has two step-children, 21 and 17.  

Judy Weitzman has been a Walters Art Museum Docent for the past six years.  She enjoys touring with school children as well as adults and has been actively creating and presenting virtual tours this past year.  Although her background was in pharmacy, Judy's love of art, art history and lifelong learning is invigorating her retirement.  Judy also takes a variety of classes at the Renaissance Institute at Notre Dame.
