Event Details

On June 3, 2005, Kristin Mitchell was murdered by her boyfriend in her apartment just outside of Philadelphia. She was ending her relationship with the man. Three weeks prior, the Mitchell family had attended Kristin’s graduation at Saint Joseph’s University. That was the last day they saw her alive.

Since those dark days, author and Kristin's father Bill Mitchell has passionately spoken out about the need to educate young adults and parents about the warning signs and dangerous consequences of dating violence. Bill and his wife, Michele, have participated in nonprofit foundations whose missions were, “to end the devastating effects of dating violence by raising awareness about warning signs and preventative actions.”

Mitchell has given more than one hundred speeches and interviews on dating violence. Today, he is the author of When Dating Hurts, a book about Kristin’s murder and his family’s journey towards healing. The Mitchells believe if Kristin had received the kind of information this book contains, their daughter would most likely be alive today. They feel most parents are without fundamental understandings of what dating violence is, how it can be recognized, and what to do when it is detected.
