In Worlds Apart: A Memoir of Uncertain Belonging, local author Sarah Lutterodt chronicles her life's journey from a sheltered childhood in England to transformative years in Ghana, and her biracial family's challenging transition to the United States. The memoir concludes with her joyful return to Ghana in retirement.
Event Details:
Sarah will read passages from her memoir that illustrate her encounters with diverse cultures. She will also invite participants to reflect on their own experiences with cultural boundaries and their ongoing search for belonging and connection.
About Sarah Lutterodt:
Born and educated in England, Sarah Lutterodt earned a BA in Physics from the University of Oxford, an M.Phil. in Nuclear Physics from the University of London, and a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Birmingham. She has spent much of her adult life outside England, working for two years at the University of Lovanium in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and ten years at the University of Cape Coast in Ghana. Since 1980, she has lived in the United States, where she worked as a technical training consultant for General Physics Corporation before founding her own business, Quality Training Systems, in 1997.
Sarah has been married to her husband, Clement, for fifty-two years. Together, they have three children, who currently pursue their careers in Seattle, Los Angeles, and London. Now retired, Sarah and Clement split their time between their homes in Columbia, MD, and Accra, Ghana.
