Maryland's Five Million Trees Initiative: Trees for Your Homes and Communities
In 2021, Maryland lawmakers signed a bill with a bold proposal: plant five million trees across the state in ten years, with at least five hundred thousand going into urban underserved communities. Leading the charge is the Maryland Forest Service, an agency with a long history of tree planting and stewardship, but the success of this herculean undertaking truly depends on citizen action at the individual and community levels. Join tree planting specialist Dylan Orr to learn about the many programs available to provide Marylanders with funding and technical support to take tree planting projects from the drawing board to installation.
Dylan Orr is a tree planting specialist operating in Carroll, Howard, and Montgomery Counties on behalf of the Maryland Forest Service. Hired as part of Maryland's ongoing Five Million Trees Initiative, his role primarily involves working with private landowners, community organizations, and public land managers to scout, plan, and implement tree planting projects.
