Synthetic Turf Playing Fields: Health and Environmental Impacts You Need to Know

Synthetic turf playing fields are becoming more and more common for youth in Howard County playing team sports. These fields are level underfoot and can be played on regardless of the weather. But both Baltimore County and Maryland Free State PTAs have passes resolutions requesting:

· A moratorium on any new outdoor synthetic turf fields;

· Replacement of existing synthetic turf fields with natural grass as they require replacement:

· Installation of visible warning signs at all synthetic turf fields warning athletes, parents, and others of heat risk and chemical toxins; and

· Recommendations to improve safety.
