Program Description

Event Details

Join internationally recognized curiosity expert Scott Shigeoka for a powerful evening exploring how curiosity can transform our lives, relationships, and communities.

Scott is the author of Seek: How Curiosity Can Transform Your Life and Change the World, an Amazon Best Book of the Year and Porchlight Best Business Book winner.

In researching Seek, Scott spent months driving across the United States alone—deliberately placing himself in situations where curiosity was the bridge to connection. He attended MAGA rallies as an openly gay Asian man, shared meals with people of vastly different political ideologies, and sought understanding with those who, on the surface, seemed worlds apart. His “Deep Curiosity” practice, rooted in his DIVE model, shows us how to go beneath the surface to find shared humanity and build bridges across deep divides.

In this engaging presentation, Scott will share stories from his journey, offer practical strategies, backed up by science, to invite more curiosity into your life and offer an interactive experience so you can practice these tools in real time.

This program directly supports HCLS’s new strategic goal: to strengthen community bonds by providing opportunities for people to increase understanding of one another and build friendships across race, national origin, and socioeconomic status.

About the Speaker:
Scott Shigeoka is a Fellow at UC Berkeley’s Greater Good Science Center and a faculty member at the University of Texas at Austin. His work blends science and storytelling to help people foster understanding, deepen relationships, and strengthen well-being. He has appeared on The Today Show, NPR, BBC, The New York Times, and The Guardian, and received a standing ovation for his 2024 TED Talk.

All are welcome! Admission is free, but please register in advance to join us.

This event is part of HCLS’s year-long focus on curiosity and community connection through shared dialogues, which began with The Longest Table dinner in October.
