Historian Jack Burkert weaves the story of the Baltimore region into the history of The Patapsco River. In this program, we learn the story of that river, from before the time of the Industrial Revolution and ocean-going ships calling at Elkridge Landing, through the trials of floods. Large industries were established on the waterfront for riverfront access, people came and went on steamboats, while upstream, a new state park was created to protect the river offering recreational opportunities to the region’s citizens. The river is our focus, its story, and how it helped create a modern Baltimore region.
