Black Art & Artists in the Collection

Witness the enduring mark Black artists have made on American art through more than two centuries of Black art in the National Gallery of Art's collection — from 19th century painters Joshua Johnson and Robert Seldon Duncanson to modern and contemporary artists Faith Ringgold, Alma Thomas, and more.

Jenn Jenson has been a volunteer docent at the National Gallery of Art since 2018.

Her favorite National Gallery program is “whatever she’s doing at the moment”, and her favorite works of art are both the ones that take your breath away, and the ones that make your think.
