Process and Timeline:
Introductory session. For the recording of the Introductory session and the Songwriting Journal, please email rohini.gupta@hclibrary.org. Collect the Lullaby Project journal. Fill in the journal and bring it to the next Songwriting workshop. The lyrics are extracted from the journals.
February 21, Saturday. Songwriting workshop. A Grammy-winning songwriter is paired with a participant (vet, spouse, whoever will be writing the song), and they discuss the journal they have filled out. From it, they extract ideas for the lyrics. They discuss and develop a melody. Most often, the workshop is an hour-long one-time session, but extra time is allowed in case a follow-up meeting over Zoom is needed to clarify details.
February - April. Arranging, Recording, Editing, Mixing, Mastering. This segment is done by the professional songwriters. After the workshop, the songwriters put the final touches on the lullabies, arrange them, and record them professionally in a music studio. The lullaby is recorded with and without voice (accompaniment only) so that the participants can sing the lullaby themselves, using the accompaniment-only recording.
April 4, Saturday. Celebration of Songs! During the celebration, Grammy-winning songwriters will perform the final lullabies for the participants and their guests.
The participants will receive professionally recorded CD/digital files, along with a keepsake book with photographs from the workshop and printed lyrics.
