Would you like to moderate Miller Branch's Lamar Giles author event on Monday, February 24, 6-8pm? (if selected you will need to arrive at 5pm) The deadline to submit is Thursday, Feb 13th! Don't over think it, read about the novel "The Getaway", sit in a well-lit area without noise (light behind the camera, not behind you is best), and give it your best. Below are the details, read carefully.
After HCLS staff watch the finalists’ videos, they select four moderators: two winners and two alternates. Don’t miss this amazing chance to meet Lamar Giles and be part of the event!
Criteria includes:
- General:
- Availability to meet with other moderators and HCLS staff to plan questions. (evening of 2/18 & 19, afternoon of 2/22)
- Availability to be at the event early. (2/24, 5-8pm)
- Video Criteria:
- Confidence in public speaking
- Ability to engage an audience.
- Connection to Mr. Giles book “The Getaway”
Winners receive:
- Meet-and-greet with Lamar Giles.
- A signed copy of one of his books.
- Recognition as moderators at the live event.
GUIDELINES: Open to teens ages 14 - 18, residing in Howard County.
Theme:
- Why you think Lamar Giles’ work is impactful.
- Why you would be a great moderator for this event.
Requirements:
- Length of 1-3 minutes.
- Recorded with a phone or digital device that ensures good lighting and clear audio.
- Original content: No copyrighted music or images.
- Email Cheryl.Grimes@hclibrary.org, with the following:
- Pdf of signed consent form (see the attachment on this page)( if dropping off a paper copy is better, feel free to drop it off at Miller addressed to Cheryl Grimes)
- A link to your video (do not attach MP4 files) You may share a link to your video as an unlisted YouTube Short -or- Save your video to Google Drive, and select permission "anyone who has the link".
