The battle of la Drang was the first major battle between the US Army and the Peoples Army of Vietnam, PAVN. This was the first battle to use a large scale helicopter assault, First Cavalry Air, and the first to use B-52 in a tactical assault role . This battle would set the way helicopters, artillery and close air support would be used in this war.
