On the morning of 16 December 1944, the Germans achieved a total surprise attack on allies' forces on the Western Front. The American forces were overconfident and ill equipped to defend against the attack. The town of Bastogne was completely cut off. Leading the American commander’s historical response: “NUTS’ to the German’s demand for surrender. Come join an informal discussion of the battle and what became the beginning of the end of an effective German fighting force.
