The Getty: A Passion for Fashion: Jewelry Through the Ages
Diamonds, pearls, emeralds. How many of us can resist them? In this final part of our look at fashion, we will explore jewels—their beauty and symbolism—from ancient times to the present day. You will see rings, bracelets and earrings from Greek and Roman civilizations and finish up with a peek at some modern masterpieces. We will also talk about the meaning behind certain stones such as amber, carnelian and amethyst and learn a bit about the history of some of the great masters of design including Van Cleef and Arpels and Harry Winston, among others.
Docent Lee Rubinstein holds dual degrees in English and History with a minor in Art History. She has been leading students through the galleries at the Getty since the program's inception in 2012. Additionally, in 2007, Lee created the curriculum for, and now runs, a volunteer art program in underserved schools in Los Angeles.
