Cryptocurrency is the hot new financial trend, but much is not understood about this buzzy, volatile digital payment system that does not rely on banks to verify transactions. The Better Business Bureau of Greater Maryland will explain how cryptocurrency has created a fertile environment to steal from investors. Lack of regulation and consumer education has resulted in dramatic increase in fraud and monetary losses.  This presentation examines cryptocurrency and how criminals are exploiting the market to scam investors.

Presenter Angie Barnett has served as President/CEO of BBB of Greater MD since 2006. She has 15+ years' experience serving in executive roles for nonprofit organizations prior to her arrival at BBB, whose mission is to foster and build marketplace trust, has 3000 accredited businesses and as such, ranks as one of Maryland’s largest business organizations. Angie is a 2000 graduate of Leadership Maryland and currently serves as the incoming Chair for the Executive Alliance, serves on the state’s Project SAFE workgroup and is a governor’s appointee to the Consumer Council.  “Doing the right thing for the right reason is a hallmark of trust, a mantra for BBB operations, and an expression of my own core beliefs,” stated Angie.  “When your work permits you to reflect your core values, you are more effective for the organization and the extension of yourself as you balance work and home.”

Presented in partnership with Better Business Bureau Serving Greater Maryland, bbb.org.
