Keynote Speaker: Crystal Trice: AI and Education: Embracing Change and Managing the Tension 

Join Crystal Trice, an award-winning public librarian and national presenter, who will explore the profound impact of AI on education, offering insights into how AI is reshaping teaching, learning, and parental involvement, and strategies for navigating these changes. By focusing on practical approaches, Crystal will highlight key trends and provide insights into how educators and families can manage these shifts in ways that are constructive and balanced.


Panel Discussion: AI Across Sectors   

Local experts share their AI projects:

David Shahene Jahangiri – Health & Sports Medicine Teacher at Laurel High School. Mr. Jahangiri utilizes AI as a teacher, Head Boys Lacrosse Coach, Special teams coordinator, and Strength & Conditioning coach for wrestling.  

Tamim Sookoor, PhD – Senior Professional Staff, JHU APL. Dr. Sookoor is working on WAUTO (Water operations AUTOmation) with Little Patuxent Water Reclamation Plant in Howard County. WAUTO is a machine learning based system that optimizes wastewater reclamation plant operations for communities especially vulnerable to flooding events, like Ellicott City experienced in 2016 and 2018. 

Bipendra Basnyat, PhD – Adjunct Professor, UMBC and entrepreneurial innovator. Dr. Basnyat has developed a solution for deterring wildlife in urban landscapes using his AICoexist platform. His research is exploring opportunities to develop and implement humane and innovative solutions for human-wildlife conflict management.
