Event Details

Discover what's lurking beneath the covers of frequently challenged books.  Learn about the history and significance of Banned Books Week and then listen to a reading from a frequently challenged book.

Each Day of Banned Books Week will feature a reading from a different frequently challenged book.  You can join every day or just for the ones that interest you.  Register here for the Wednesday, September 25 session, where we will be reading from Looking for Alaska by John Green.  To register for one of the other days, click on its link below.

  • Monday, September 23 - 1984 by George Orwell
  • Tuesday, September 24 - Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell
  • Thursday, September 26 - The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini
  • Friday, September 27 - Picture Books
    • Nasreen's Secret School: A True Story from Afghanistan and The Librarian of Basra: A True Story from Iraq written and illustrated by Jeanette Winter
    • This Day in June written by Gayle E. Pitman and illustrated by Kristyna Litten
    • And Tango Makes Three written by Justin Richardson and Peter Parnell and illustrated by Henry Cole
