The Office of Human Rights & Equity is partnering with Howard County Library System, the African American Community Roundtable of Howard County, the Howard County Chapter of the NAACP, and the Contiental Societies, Inc. Columbia, Maryland Chapter to present to you a celebration of local Black authors.

Join us on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at 6:00 PM at HCLS Elkridge Branch for a discussion and book signing with Jonathan McKinney, author of The Little Black Boy: The Life of a Poor Kid From the East Side. A book about survival, redemption, and the power of forgiveness, McKinney shares his personal story as a young man growing up on the East Side of Detroit, Michigan and the various challenges he faced during an era marred by gangs, crack, violence, and systemic racism. McKinney says, "My goal is for us to understand that you are not defined by your circumstances, you are not alone, you are worthy of your dreams, and you deserve love, peace, and happiness."

This will be an enriching and powerful discussion! Light refreshments will be served and the first 20 people to arrive will receive a free signed copy of the book. There will also be copies available for purchase and at the end of the event Mr. McKinney will be available to sign those copies. You can also borrow a copy of the book using your HCLS library card.
